Fine motor speed, the ability to make small, rapid, repeated movements, tends to be quickest in adolescence and early adulthood and then declines slowly with age. That pattern shows up in click speed too: teenagers and people in their twenties usually post the highest averages, while very young children and older adults tend to click more slowly. The figures below are rough averages on a standard test, not strict limits, and plenty of people click well outside the range for their age.

The shape of the curve is well established; the specific numbers in the cells are not measured and should not be quoted as though they were. Every competing site publishing a version of this table is in the same position, whether it says so or not. The hardware under your hand shapes your score before skill enters the picture. A physical mouse button actuates faster and more reliably than a laptop trackpad or a touchscreen, so the same person can post noticeably different numbers on different devices. A gaming mouse with a light, crisp switch registers rapid clicks that a basic office mouse or a worn switch would drop.

This is why comparing scores only makes sense on similar hardware. If your number looks low, the mouse may be the limit rather than your hand. The clearest way to check is to run the same test on a different device and see how much the score moves.
